Aurora 24th September 2023
Scotland sees the Aurora or Northern lights more often than many think, needing only a moderate activity level. Typical levels needed for a display over Perth are recorded as either a
K-Index over 5
or a
power of over 60GW on the NOAA space weather site.
March and September are the generally the better months for aurora.
The images here are from the major event of 10 May 2024, when the main auroral display was to the south.
Remarkably the aurora was visible in colour to the eye.
